Kerala Cafe

Posted by happynuts on 8:32 AM in
Kerala Cafe... A film with a difference... the word difference wont fit in aptly, its so vivid in every aspect of a film. A big experiment in the deteriorating Mollywood. An out of the box movie by Renjith & his friends.

The movie revolves around a cafe in railway station, named Kerala cafe. The movie has 10 parts or 10 short films all of them starts, ends or continues in this Kerala cafe. Lets have a look at each part of the movie

Nostalgia
Director: PadmaKumar
Lead Actors: Dileep & Navya

In this film Dileep plays a well settled NRI in dubai & has a wife & 2 daughters. His character is a selfish & cruel guy who has interest only in money. This story shows how he cheats & neglects others for the sake of making money.

Story is good, but Dileep's acting is waste & casting also not good.

Rating:4/10

Island Express
Director: Shankar Ramakrishnan
Lead Actors: Prithviraj, Jayasurya, Rehman, Manian Pilla Raju & Sukumari

Prithviraj is an Artist & is launching his book. He is launching it at a place & on such an date that every character of this film meet together. The movie shows how each characters played by Manian Pilla Raju, Sukumari & Rehman are attached to the specific date.

Prithviraj looks cool & also did his part well. Infact everyone did a great job. This one was a great relief after the crap Nostalgia.

Rating: 7/10

Lalitham hiranmayam
Director: Shaji Kailash
Lead actors: Suresh Gopi, Jyothimayi & Dhanya Mary George

Suresh Gopi is married to Jyothirmayi, Lalitha, but he falls in love with another girl, Hiranmaayi. He confesses about his affair to lalitha & its consequences forms the rest of the story.

Over acting by Suresh gopi & Jyothiirmayi & Poor direction. Shaji Kailash could have come out with an action movie

Rating:4/10

Mruthyunjayam
Director: Uday Ananthan
Lead Actors: Thilakan, Fahd Faazil & Reema

Fahad is the host of a TV show, where he shares his experiences about the spooky places in India. He comes to Thilakan to get the keys of a "Maanna", which is haunted. Rima is Thilakan's granddaughter.

Story isnt fresh, direction is average. Doesnt feel like an horror movie. But Rima's acting brings you goosebumps. Her character was totally unnecessay. Thilakan & Fahad have done justice to their roles.

Rating:5.5/10

Happy Journey
Director: Anjali Menon
Lead Actors: Jagathy Sreekumar & Nithya Menon

Jagathy is an all-time flirt who is travelling from Kochi to Kozhikode on the weekend. He creates discomfort for his co-passenger, Nithya. Story reveals as the journey advances.

Hats off to Jagathy for such a wonderful acting. Nithya, simply gorgeous & reminds you of Kanghana Rauhat. Anjali Menon, conveyed the message well in this short span of time

Rating:8.5/10

Aviramam
Director: B.Unnikrishnan
Lead Actors: Siddique & Swetha Menon

Siddique & Swetha are happy couple & Siddque owns an IT firm and is in a crisis after the recession. How they manage this situation is the story.

A well said story. Siddique did a well job.

Rating:7.5/10

Season
Director: Shyama Prasad

Lead Actors: Suraaj Venjaramood, Frank Pietropinto & Marie Muscroft.

Suraaj plays a local in kovalam who does anything to earn few euros. Story is what happens after he meets a Portuguese couple.

A comedy flick from Shyama prasad, very unexpected one. But he made it with a difference. Felt like watching a French comedy film. Music is very catchy. Shyamaprasad has utilised Suraaj's full potential.

Rating:7/10

Bridge
Director: Anwar Rasheed
Lead Actors:
Saleem Kumar, Kozhikode Santhadevi & Kalpana

Two stories are told simultaneously were a character from each story is a burden for their families & what happens to them is the story.

I just froze by the end of this film, such an heart touching story & well directed. The best movie out of the 10 films. Not a single flaw in the movie. Santhadevi was so natural, she reminded me of my great grandmother.

Rating:10/10

Makal
Director: Revathy
Lead Actors:
Sona Nair, Augustin, Srinath, Sreelakshmi & Archana

Story is about selling of girl child & about sex rackets.

Expected much more from the Director Revathy, but the work is good. The character played by the girls's mother did justice to the character by delivering her best.

Rating:7.5

Puram Kazhchakal
Director: Lal Jose
Lead Actors:Mammootty & Sreenivasan.

Mammooty & Sreenivasan are fellow travellers in a bus. Climax reveals the reason why Mammooty behaves strangely.

Mammooty did a splendid acting in the climax scene, else he didnt have much to perform. Lal Jose narrated the story in a novel way.

Rating: 7.5/10

Great effort by all the Directors & Technicians. A novel idea that should be well applauded. Best short film: Bridge Best Actors: Santhadevi(Bridge), The lady who plays the mother in Makal,
Jagathy Sreekumar & Nithya Menon (Happy Journey), Siddique(Aviramam), Boy in the film 'Bridge' & Prithviraj(Island express). Best Director: Anwar Rasheed (Bridge) Kerala Cafe worth watching...

A walk to remember...

Posted by happynuts on 7:48 PM in ,
Eventhough my past movie reviews didnt get much hits, this post is solely aimed to break the ice, its been long since i posted something out here.

I am gonna start a new series of posts its called "The movies to watch before you die", yeah your guess is right, its inspired by the program with the same name in Rosebowl. But here, i post about the movies i liked the best & what i think is a very good movie to be watched again & again, may be it will conflict with your taste.

So moving on to "A walk to remember"
This movie was suggested to me by Rockstar & got it from Ostinato's video library.
I bet tears will definitely fill your eyes.

A walk to remember

A group of school friends, in which our hero Landon Carter is a part, plays a prank on a guy who tries to join their group & ends up in hospital. Landon is caught by the police & gets punishment of mandatory participation in various after-school activities, such as tutoring disadvantaged children and performing in the drama club's spring musical.

Also participating in these activities is our Heroine
Jamie Sullivan, the reverend's daughter who has great ambitions and nothing in common with Landon. Their differing social statures leave them worlds apart. When Landon decides he wants to take his activities seriously, he asks Jamie for help and begins to spend most of his time with her.

When Landon has trouble learning his lines, he asks Jamie for help. She agrees to help him if he promises not to fall in love with her. Landon laughs off the strange remark, believing Jamie to be the last person with whom he would ever fall in love. But he starts to develop strong feelings for her, something he did not expect to do. Landon learns that Jamie has a wish list of all the things she hopes to do in her life, such as
getting a tattoo and being in two places at once. One day, Jamie approaches Landon at his locker, where he is hanging out with some of his friends. When Jamie asks Landon if they are still on for practice that afternoon he smirks "In your dreams". His friends laugh and Landon's smirk falters as Jamie's face fills with betrayal and embarrassment. That afternoon Landon arrives at Jamie's house, hoping that Jamie will still agree to help him. But she refuses to open the door. When she eventually does, she sarcastically remarks that they can be "secret friends". She slams the door in his face when he agrees. Landon eventually learns the script by himself.

During the play, Jamie astounds Landon and the entire audience with her beauty and voice.
Landon kisses Jamie during the play, which was not in the script, and Landon tries to get close to Jamie, but she repeatedly rejects him. It is only after a mean joke played on Jamie by Landon's friends that Jamie agrees to get to know Landon after he fights his friends (Dean & Belinda) who played the joke and takes Jamie home. The two pursue a relationship. He takes her out to dinner and dances with her, something he never did for anyone else. When he discovers that Jamie has a wish list, he sets out to help her accomplish them. (Next part is one of favorite scene)One memorable date had Landon taking Jamie to the state line. He excitedly positions her on the line in just the right way, and when Jamie asks him what he's doing he tells her "You're in two places at once". Her face lights up with joy, as she realizes that Landon set out to make her impossible dreams come true.

Jamie finally tells Landon that she has leukemia and has stopped responding to treatments. Landon gets upset at first. Jamie tells him the reason why she didn't tell him because she was moving on with her life and using the time she left but then Landon happened and she fell in love with him. Jamie starts to break down as she says to Landon
"I do not need a reason to be angry with God." and she flees.(Oh...!!! by this time i was in tears) Landon goes to his doctor father's house and asks him to help Jamie. His father freaks out a bit and says that he needs to examine Jamie and know her medical history before he could do anything. Landon leaves in a huff. Landon and Jamie make up the next day. They hug and he tells her that he will be there for her. Soon, word gets out about Jamie's illness. Eric, Landon's best friend comes and tells him how sorry he is and that he didn't understand. Dean and Belinda both come and apologize.

Jamie's cancer gets worse and she collapses in her father's arms. He rushes her to the hospital where he meets Landon. Landon doesn't leave Jamie's side until her father practically has to pry him away. Jamie's father sits with Jamie and tells her that "If I've kept you too close, it's because I wanted to keep you longer." Jamie tells him that she loves him and her father breaks down.

The next day, Landon comes to the hospital and sees Jamie being wheeled out of there. He asks what's going on. Jamie asks him to thank his father for her. Landon asks Jamie's father what she means. He tells him that his father is going to pay for private homecare for Jamie. Landon is stunned. Late that night, Landon knocks on his father's front door. His father answers. Landon whispers "thank you." His father hugs him.(Most touching moment)t With all the exhaustion and fear billowing over, Landon breaks down in tears in his dad's arms.

Landon continues to fulfill various wishes on Jamie's list,
such as building her a telescope so she can see a comet. Through this process, Landon and Jamie learn more about the nature of love. The movie ends with Jamie's death, but only after the couple are married in the same chapel as was Jamie's deceased mother, the event that topped Jamie's wish list. Landon himself becomes a better person through Jamie's memory, achieving the goals that he set out to do, like she did.

Four years later, Landon visits Jamie's father. It is obvious that Jamie helped him to focus and become a better person. For example, he reveals he has finished college and been accepted to medical school; prior to meeting her he had no plans for life after high school. He tells Jamie's father that he is sorry he could not grant Jamie's wish to witness "a miracle" before she died. Her father says "She did. It was you".

Masakali

Posted by happynuts on 6:48 PM in
You must be wondering whats this Masakali is all about...!!! Hey guys its not any biscuit or any tropical island but its the title of a song from Delhi 6. Music by the Legend A.R. Rahman, Director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra[Rang De Basanti]. Abhisekh Bachchan & Sonam Kapoor(beautiful young lady) are in the lead roles...

Let me come to the song, its a beautiful melodious song from ARR, first movie from him in 2009. The song has been pictured well in the busy walled city of Delhi, better known as Chandni Chowk. You can also see a lots of pigeons moving around in this song, which leads to another interesting thing about the song. Yeah its about the word Masakali, its the name of a pigeon. A.R.Rahman said it in an interview that this pigeon plays an important role in the movie, yeah its the Cupid's role.

Pigeon is a very cute & gorgeous bird, ofcourse every one would love to own one or see the beautiful flight of a group of pigeons. This bird has been used a symbol of peace & in olden days as a messenger. I wish i had a pigeon(as a messenger) as a substitute for the mobile...

So lets wait & see how the movie turns out. Its releasing somewhere in the mid of January. Till then Masakali... Matakali...

Kangal Irendal...

Posted by happynuts on 10:28 PM in

Ever since the song Kangal irendal, from the film Subramaniapuram was aired on TV, it has become the favorite of the listeners. From babies to grannies, from singles to lovers,{ oh its too much of exaggeration na!} a pleasant smile comes to their face while hearing this song.

What is the element that attracted you to the song?
hmmm... its very difficult to answer na?

Its a melody composed in ragam " Karakarapriya".

The song captures innocence of love between the hero & heroine. The song commences soon after the heroine speaks for the first time to hero. oooooohhhh!!! what a great feeling it is, one of the greatest feel in life to make a dumbo a poet lol...[its a true fact]. As the song proceed you can she our Hero chasing the hero-in, trying all stuffs to impress her & all.
The director, Mr. Sasi Kumar has not damaged the feel of the song & done a great job in preserving it while picturing. Hats off to the debut ant Music director Mr. James Vasanth for presenting the surprise hit of the year. I think the song topped all the music charts this year.

Moving on to the movie...
All are newcomers, Director, Music-director, Actors, Actresses...
The movie starts in the year 2008 & flies back to 80's, where the remaining part of the movie revolves till 10 mins before the climax. Story is about five unemployed youth, their friendship, love between one of the friend & girl from their village & betrayal of trust. Nothing much is shown about the 5th friend, may be he is not much of importance.

Azaghar, Paraman, Kaasi & Kosi{ the handicapped guy} are the friends. These guys are very short tempered & reacts very fast to silly things. As a result they are always involved in brawl & end up in jail. These guys always hang aroung a light & sound shop opposite ex-councillor's, Somu's, house. Councillor's has a younger brother, Kanugu a politician. kanugu is the Saviour of these friends, he is the one who bails Azaghar & Paraman from jail. That is why these guys are so loyal to Somu & kanugu.

Azaghar is in love with Somu's daughter Tulasi, but paraman is not all happy with this relation & always advices Azaghar not to believe these girls. But he is blindly in love with her. These guys have no job so they hangout at their favourite places spend the day smoking, drinking & ofcourse fighting for no reason. Among them kosi, the handicapped guy is little bit serious about life & does small-small jobs & earns money. Joker among their group is Kaasi, everyone teases him & end their anger by beating him, poor chap! The movie goes on smoothly until Kanugu asks Azaghar & Paraman's favour to get rid of his political foe. They agree, as they get an opportunity to show their loyalty. But their life takes a U-Turn after this decision. Thats forms the rest of the story.

Touching line in the movie is when Paraman says to Azaghar " We were happy when we were doing nothing, now look what happened to our lives".

One of the must watch movie of the season. Its happy to see a very good movie after a long gap. Totally different from normal tamil stuffs like removing a tumor by firing a bullet lol..., masala stuffs & all.

I bet if you have a heart then your eyes will surely get wet after the movie...!!!
