Kerala Cafe... A film with a difference... the word difference wont fit in aptly, its so vivid in every aspect of a film. A big experiment in the deteriorating Mollywood. An out of the box movie by Renjith & his friends.

The movie revolves around a cafe in railway station, named Kerala cafe. The movie has 10 parts or 10 short films all of them starts, ends or continues in this Kerala cafe. Lets have a look at each part of the movie

Nostalgia
Director: PadmaKumar
Lead Actors: Dileep & Navya

In this film Dileep plays a well settled NRI in dubai & has a wife & 2 daughters. His character is a selfish & cruel guy who has interest only in money. This story shows how he cheats & neglects others for the sake of making money.

Story is good, but Dileep's acting is waste & casting also not good.

Rating:4/10

Island Express
Director: Shankar Ramakrishnan
Lead Actors: Prithviraj, Jayasurya, Rehman, Manian Pilla Raju & Sukumari

Prithviraj is an Artist & is launching his book. He is launching it at a place & on such an date that every character of this film meet together. The movie shows how each characters played by Manian Pilla Raju, Sukumari & Rehman are attached to the specific date.

Prithviraj looks cool & also did his part well. Infact everyone did a great job. This one was a great relief after the crap Nostalgia.

Rating: 7/10

Lalitham hiranmayam
Director: Shaji Kailash
Lead actors: Suresh Gopi, Jyothimayi & Dhanya Mary George

Suresh Gopi is married to Jyothirmayi, Lalitha, but he falls in love with another girl, Hiranmaayi. He confesses about his affair to lalitha & its consequences forms the rest of the story.

Over acting by Suresh gopi & Jyothiirmayi & Poor direction. Shaji Kailash could have come out with an action movie

Rating:4/10

Mruthyunjayam
Director: Uday Ananthan
Lead Actors: Thilakan, Fahd Faazil & Reema

Fahad is the host of a TV show, where he shares his experiences about the spooky places in India. He comes to Thilakan to get the keys of a "Maanna", which is haunted. Rima is Thilakan's granddaughter.

Story isnt fresh, direction is average. Doesnt feel like an horror movie. But Rima's acting brings you goosebumps. Her character was totally unnecessay. Thilakan & Fahad have done justice to their roles.

Rating:5.5/10

Happy Journey
Director: Anjali Menon
Lead Actors: Jagathy Sreekumar & Nithya Menon

Jagathy is an all-time flirt who is travelling from Kochi to Kozhikode on the weekend. He creates discomfort for his co-passenger, Nithya. Story reveals as the journey advances.

Hats off to Jagathy for such a wonderful acting. Nithya, simply gorgeous & reminds you of Kanghana Rauhat. Anjali Menon, conveyed the message well in this short span of time

Rating:8.5/10

Aviramam
Director: B.Unnikrishnan
Lead Actors: Siddique & Swetha Menon

Siddique & Swetha are happy couple & Siddque owns an IT firm and is in a crisis after the recession. How they manage this situation is the story.

A well said story. Siddique did a well job.

Rating:7.5/10

Season
Director: Shyama Prasad

Lead Actors: Suraaj Venjaramood, Frank Pietropinto & Marie Muscroft.

Suraaj plays a local in kovalam who does anything to earn few euros. Story is what happens after he meets a Portuguese couple.

A comedy flick from Shyama prasad, very unexpected one. But he made it with a difference. Felt like watching a French comedy film. Music is very catchy. Shyamaprasad has utilised Suraaj's full potential.

Rating:7/10

Bridge
Director: Anwar Rasheed
Lead Actors:
Saleem Kumar, Kozhikode Santhadevi & Kalpana

Two stories are told simultaneously were a character from each story is a burden for their families & what happens to them is the story.

I just froze by the end of this film, such an heart touching story & well directed. The best movie out of the 10 films. Not a single flaw in the movie. Santhadevi was so natural, she reminded me of my great grandmother.

Rating:10/10

Makal
Director: Revathy
Lead Actors:
Sona Nair, Augustin, Srinath, Sreelakshmi & Archana

Story is about selling of girl child & about sex rackets.

Expected much more from the Director Revathy, but the work is good. The character played by the girls's mother did justice to the character by delivering her best.

Rating:7.5

Puram Kazhchakal
Director: Lal Jose
Lead Actors:Mammootty & Sreenivasan.

Mammooty & Sreenivasan are fellow travellers in a bus. Climax reveals the reason why Mammooty behaves strangely.

Mammooty did a splendid acting in the climax scene, else he didnt have much to perform. Lal Jose narrated the story in a novel way.

Rating: 7.5/10

Great effort by all the Directors & Technicians. A novel idea that should be well applauded. Best short film: Bridge Best Actors: Santhadevi(Bridge), The lady who plays the mother in Makal,
Jagathy Sreekumar & Nithya Menon (Happy Journey), Siddique(Aviramam), Boy in the film 'Bridge' & Prithviraj(Island express). Best Director: Anwar Rasheed (Bridge) Kerala Cafe worth watching...

sounds interesting.. usually, i guess, it's not an easy job to come up with a garland of stories that blend with each other, and to direct them well.. Mallu movies are certainly rich in terms of variety :)
